And with brothers Stephen on guitar and Cody on bass, Patrick's high school dream rolls a bit closer to a reality.
The three brothers from Goliad formed the group about four years ago after Patrick's stint with a number of other bands. "This is what I always wanted," Patrick said. "I was always waiting for it to be about us, as brothers, as a family ..."
The brotherhood is obvious as they jointly answer the question of what it's like being in a band. "It's hard, you know," said Patrick, with Cody adding, "It's a tough business," and Stephen finishing with "to try to make it."
And about the stress of being with family so much, "The good thing about being a family is that if we ever get in a fight, we have to get over it quick ..." Patrick said, with Cody finishing, "Yeah, it can get nasty sometimes but the next day we are all cool with it."
While Cody and Stephen live mostly on proceeds made at the group's performances, Patrick holds a full-time job as a supervisor at a local manufacturing plant. "It makes it really hard. I have a lot of responsibilities at my regular job and the band suffers a bit because of it."
Patrick recalls, "My excuse for never having a CD before was because I wanted it to be us three. But now we've been together for over three years and still, no CD."
The three agree that the sound they want recorded under their name is a bit beyond their means. "The way we want it to sound is going to cost a lot of money," Patrick said.
The three hope to not only have a CD out in the future, but have it out soon, to include their other two brothers in the band. Cody points out, "Jon is good at the piano and Kevin plays drums ... then it would be a really full band instead of just three."
Cornerstone plays live nearly every weekend with shows in Victoria, Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Houston, and occasionally as far away as Dallas.
