Flyers look for more offensive production

Scores tend to tighten in the playoffs and running up statistics isn't as easy.The reason is because you're playing tougher teams and the pressure is on. For St. Joseph, it isn't playing the San Marcos Baptist Academy's and Giddings State Schools of the world anymore. Cuero, Sealy renew playoff rivalry

CUERO - Senior Jake Rangnow was a freshman the last time Cuero played Sealy, but he's aware of the history. "I've heard that it's been a while since we've beaten them in the playoffs," Rangnow said. "I know we beat them the last few times in the regular season, but before that they had us pretty good." more >>

SUGAR LAND - Amy Torres hit a 3-pointer with 2 second remaining to give Memorial a 55-52 win over Houston Hastings in the Lady Vipers' opening game at the Fort Bend tournament on Thursday. Torres finished with 13 points, and helped the Lady Vipers even their record at 2-2 on the season. more >>

Vipers split district matches

ROBSTOWN - The Memorial wrestling team opened the season Wednesday night by splitting a pair of District 30-5A matches. The Vipers dropped a 54-25 decision to Corpus Christi King before defeating Robstown 34-27. Memorial's Kyle Lee (119 pounds), Jason Pate (135) and Ryan Killebrew (145) were double winners. more >>

PORT LAVACA - Calhoun fans consider 2006 a dream season, but it ended in a nightmare. Calhoun was riding a high after ending a 45-year playoff drought, clinching a share of the district championship and the top seed in the playoffs, and coming off a 76-47 playoff win over Uvalde when its season came to sudden halt in a 39-18 loss to Edcouch-Elsa. more >>

ALICE - Krysta Martinez scored 28 points to lead the Memorial Lady Vipers to their first win of the season, downing Alice 64-48 on Tuesday. The Lady Vipers (1-2) led 32-29 at halftime before going on a 32-17 run in the second half to pick up the win. more >>

Flatonia hands Flyers fifth loss of season

Clark Pantel led St. Joseph with nine points but it wasn't enough as Flatonia came away with a 53-34 win on the Flyers' home court on Tuesday. Dakota Pinney led the Bulldogs with 19 and Gabriel Vasquez scored 17 as Flatonia sent the Flyers to a 1-5 record to start the season. more >>
